The PebbleCreek Men’s Golf Association held its annual Goofy Golf tournament on Thursday, May 28 on the Eagle’s Nest course. With a sense of humor as the key ingredient, PCMGA members had a blast shooting for somewhat impossible pin placements and even putting to a cup the size of a pizza.
By tradition the outgoing president sets up the course. It can be fun, but also diabolical. Several pins were located on sides of hills for a skeeball-like challenge. Other pins were placed very near the fringe or at the bottom of swales. The forward tees were used on all holes except the par threes. This made the four drive minimum per player somewhat easier to manage and much more fun!
A total of 24 teams competed in a scramble format. Each team was made up of four players from the A, B, C and D handicap categories. The teams were matched very closely by total handicap so all were placed in one flight. Number of putt attempts were counted this year; a new twist.
Prizes were awarded for low gross, low net, fewest putts, high gross and high net.
Low Gross: 1st place Dan Graville, Ray Measles, Paul Metivier and Barry Stauffer; 2nd place Norm Munger, Ken Schmitz, Stan Smith and Dave Willison
Low Net: 1st place Roy Bridges, Ken Robinson, Michael Molinari and Thomas Fenoglio; tied 2nd place Dave Flynn, Parmer Gillespie, Stan Lockitski and Butch Schoen and Robert Aldridge, Derry Davison, Larry Dick and John Stergulz; tied 4th place Keith Tingelhoff, Roger Uherchik, Toru Yogi and Paul Ysteboe, Howie Tiger, Steffen Jacobson, Robert LeClair and Don Morris and James Anspaugh, Charlie Kice, John Krasnan and Jerome Sims
Fewest Putts: 1st place Randal Clements, Jan Cralle, Emil Economou and William Gainer; 2nd place Dave Green, Jim Wolfe, Eugene Howard and Terry Johnson; 3rd place Larry Bergman, Jerry Briner, Brian Maine and James Seith and 4th place Gary Ham, Richard Jesko, George Marley and Shawn Mayer
High Gross: Al Chesky, Ian Downing, Tom Wattawa and Nelson Shahon
High Net: Edward Bobigian, Michael Harrington, Bud Held and Larry Lange
The fun continued after play as beer and hot dogs were served on the Eagle’s Nest patio.
Many thanks to our outgoing president John Krasnan for the terrific course set up. Thanks also to Paul McGinnis and his greenskeeping staff for providing smooth greens to putt on. We also appreciated the pizza size cup on the 16th hole!
Special thanks to our tournament chairmen this year, Jerry Monk and Steve Straley.
