Fitness Center changes on the horizon

Melissa Kallett

Hang on to your hat-or should I say your sneakers as changes are on the horizon at your PebbleCreek Fitness Centers. The months of October and November will be challenging, confusing and rewarding for our fitness center patrons, but come December all will be back to normal-and a new normal at that! Throughout the next two months everyone’s cooperation is essential as one pool goes down for renovation, a new fitness building opens and an existing facility closes for renovation. As Madame Curie once said, “The way of progress is neither swift nor easy.” That said, all efforts are in place to make this transition period as quick and painless as possible. The following articles highlight what is to be expected.

Tuscany Falls Outdoor Pool Renovation

The Tuscany Outdoor Pool area, to include the Kiddy Pool, main pool and Spa will close effective October 15 and remain closed until the end of November. During this six week period the entire pool will undergo some much needed renovation and repair. The entire pool will be emptied and new plaster/pebble sheen applied and new tiles and underwater lights installed. Up top, the deck will be cleared and new cool decking put in place. Experts will assess the resistance pool motor and, if possible, increase the force of resistance. The Kiddy Pool and Spa will receive the same renovations.

Where shall you swim?

Throughout the renovation the Eagle’s Nest Pool will be open from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. daily.

What about the kids?

Children’s hours at the Eagle’s Nest Pool are 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Throughout the renovation period, holiday rules will be in effect, meaning younger children (aged two through seven years) may join the older kids during these hours. As a reminder:

– All children must be supervised by an adult, with each adult responsible for no more than three children.

– Children must be toilet trained as no swim diapers are ever allowed in the main pools.

– Children are not allowed in the Eagle’s Nest lap pool or spa.

Pool users are required to check in at the Eagle’s Nest Fitness Desk during fitness center hours of operation and cover-ups over swimsuits should be worn inside the building

What about Aqua Classes?

Daily (Monday through Friday) Aqua Challenge class will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Classes will have priority on one side of the pool for that hour. A pool lane divide will be placed to designate the area. An exception to this will occur the week of Thanksgiving (November 23 to 27) as no aqua classes will be held that week. Instead the entire pool will be available during the children’s hours to accommodate visiting grandchildren. Again, children’s hours are 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Coming Soon: New Tuscany Fitness Aerobic Center

You’ve been watching it go up and soon you’ll be able to see and live the experience of the new Tuscany Fitness Aerobic Center. This three studio facility is anticipated to open in early November. All fitness classes currently conducted in the Tuscany Falls Fitness Center will relocate to the new facility-along with some new classes and new features. Here’s what to expect:

The Main Studio, the largest of the three studios, will accommodate the most popular classes increasing participation from the current maximum of 40 students to 50 students. The room will feature a raised platform for the instructor, ensuring all participants a clear view of the movements. All new exercise equipment will be put in place along with a state of the art sound system. All equipment will be fixed if broken by keeping in contact with a wire pulley system manufacturer and others who have access to vital parts that make up equipment. This room will also house the newest feature in fitness instruction, the WellBeats system (see following article).

The Second Studio is medium in size and will accommodate classes of up to 30 people and be available for instructional classes Monday through Friday in the morning hours. It will have its own set of equipment and the same quality sound system. It is anticipated that classes will be held concurrently in this and the larger room to accommodate our growing PebbleCreek population and Weight Loss Trainers will also be available. At noon each day, and all day on weekends, this room will serve as our community’s new dance studio-to replace the existing smaller studio currently housed on Eagle’s Nest. This room will be used primarily by the Dance Fusion, Showtime and PC Players organizations, following the same rules and procedures currently in place at Eagle’s Nest. Requests to use this room by others outside those mentioned will need to be scheduled through the Recreation Director. Once you have been coached by a personal trainer and your fitness is and physique has improved, you may be feeling amazing and inspired to seek your own personal training certification, in order to begin a brand new fitness career.

The Third Studio is the smallest of the three and will house the spin bikes and serve as a general stretch and yoga practice area. A 60″ TV will be mounted on one wall with Spinning DVDs available for check out at the front desk.

In addition to the exercise studios the new building will feature a seating area, a Grab and Go refreshment cooler and restrooms.

WellBeats: On-Demand Fitness Classes

Designed to complement our instructor program, this “on demand” kiosk system provides users instant access to Fitness on Demand exercise classes-which will project on to a large 120″ screen at the front of the room. WellBeats comes pre-loaded with over 150 instructional classes of various types and duration. “This kiosk will add flexibility to our exercise class offerings,” notes Ann Merrill, fitness class coordinator. “Residents currently unavailable to participate in our scheduled classes will have an opportunity to take classes at their convenience,” she adds. WellBeats will be available to everyone whenever the room isn’t scheduled for live instruction. Orientation sessions will be conducted once the facility opens. “As residents and staff become familiar with the WellBeats program, guidelines and a user fee will be put in place,” notes Recreation Director Melissa Kallett. “We anticipate user excitement about the program and believe it will be a great addition to our fitness community.”

Tuscany Fitness Center Renovation Schedule

Not to be overshadowed by its new sister building (the Aerobic Center), the Tuscany Fitness Center will receive a much needed facelift as soon as that new building opens. When one building opens-the other will go down-minimizing the impact on fitness center users. “It should be a seamless transition for our exercise class participants,” notes Recreation Director Melissa Kallett. “We anticipate hosting classes in the current classroom at Tuscany Falls Fitness Center on Friday-relocating all the class equipment over the weekend-and continuing our classes on Monday in the new Aerobic Center.” Barring any unforeseen issues, that is what should happen. Users of the cardio and weight machines will have to adjust their training schedules to use the Eagle’s Nest fitness facility, which will go to expanded hours during this renovation period: November 1 through 30. Eagle’s Nest Fitness Center hours will be:

Monday through Thursday 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Friday 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Saturday/Sunday 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Tuscany Falls Renovated Weight Room

The current Tuscany Falls exercise classroom will become the new Weight Room, as the Life Fitness resistance machines and free weights will be relocated across the hall. But first-the room will be reconfigured to accommodate the change in purpose. New flooring and additional wall mirrors will be installed. The new room will also showcase added features-barbells, raised stretching platform, stretching cage and a chin/dip assist machine.

Tuscany Falls Renovated Cardio Room

The current cardio room will undergo a transformation to double the amount of cardio equipment. “We’ll be replacing all our current machines with newer models as along with acquiring additional machines: eight treadmills, four ellipticals and three recumbent bikes. New also will be our first ever recumbent steppers, an upper body ergometer and a rowing machine. “Several residents have suggested these new pieces and we listened,” notes Kallett. In addition to the machines new flooring and paint will round out the project.

Other portions of the fitness center will also get a facelift to include new flooring, lights and paint in the hallways and spa rooms and at the indoor pool new paint and deep cleaning of the pool and pool deck.

When all is said and done-and the outdoor pool is complete, the new Aerobics Center open and operating, and the Tuscany Falls Fitness Center renovation complete, we are confident everyone will agree the inconveniences of October and November will be worth it.

Eagle’s Nest Renovations?

Given all the planned renovations to the Tuscany Falls Fitness Center, it is only natural to ask, “What about Eagle’s Nest?” At this time, the Eagle’s Nest fitness facility and equipment are well maintained with no current plans to renovate the room or replace the equipment. “We monitor all our equipment tracking use, miles and minutes. So far we are well within the standards for lifecycle replacement,” notes Kallett. As the equipment ages, planned replacements will occur. As for the room itself, Director of Facilities Ken Sergio has a number of projects anticipated for the coming year to include painting the fitness room ceiling and at the Eagle’s Nest Pool, to replace the canvas shade structures.
