Barb and Ed Lavin
Please join us October 22 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Eagle’s Nest Ballroom for music, food and lots of great conversation! We will begin with cocktail hour which will include appetizers, a cash bar and live piano music by the talented Muriel Long. The New Life Center staff will give a presentation on the shelter, their mission and volunteer opportunities. You will meet other volunteers who will share their experiences with New Life Shelter and how they help to make it a better place and bring joy to the residents.
New Life Center is a shelter for abused women and children in Goodyear, about 15 minutes from PebbleCreek, that accepts families from anywhere in the U.S. These families are assigned an advocate who works with them to help them through their trauma. They are given assistance in many tools from resume writing, job skills and employment search to parenting techniques. New Life is one of just a few shelters in the U.S. that accepts teenage boys.
Caring Friends was established by a group of PebbleCreek residents in 2007 to offer assistance with the many needs of New Life Center. The group became passionate about this particular charity because in Arizona alone over 100 women are killed each year in domestic violence incidents and 10% of those deaths occur right here in the west valley.
A few of the many ways they assist are bringing desserts and snacks to the residents, planning holiday parties and doing makeovers of the casitas. The ultimate goal is to bring joy and happiness to the residents.
As we plan our fall and winter schedules here in PebbleCreek with all that is offered to us, let’s add an hour a day, week or month to bring happiness to those less fortunate.
Please RSVP by October 15 to Liz Zelazo at New Life Center 623-932-4404, extension 103 ([email protected]) or Barb and Ed Lavin here in PebbleCreek at 623-536-5636 ([email protected]).
