Mother Nature threw a few curve balls that impacted the PebbleCreek Bocce Association’s fall 2017 season. First, there was that monsoon over the summer that damaged the shade canopies on the parking lot side of the Eagle’s Nest Court Complex. Representatives of the Homeowners Association (HOA) worked over time to reinstall the shades as soon as possible, but their work timeline resulted in the courts having to be closed on several dates last month. This, in turn, affected the schedules of both the Day Leagues, requiring team captains to go the extra mile to set up make-up games.
And then, of course, there was the heat. Weather forecasters are calling it one of the warmest falls on schedule but diehard bocce players did not let record breaking temps interfere with their love of the sport. At press time, the Fall 2017 Season was wrapping up and league officials were looking forward to the championship playoffs.
Bocce Association President Cheryl Kasselmann had nothing but praise for the HOA, Board Members, Team Captains and players for their flexibility and willingness to accommodate and adjust to the necessary schedule changes.
She had special words of praise for Treasurer and Registrar Mollie McErlean and the Team Captains: “Mollie McErlean did an outstanding job keeping everyone informed about the court closure dates and the Team Captains were great about rescheduling postponed games in time for our Statistician Carol Gwilt to have the final stats completed by the playoffs,” President Kasselmann said.
The Fall Season will end on Friday, December 9. Winners of the Day and Night League Championships will be announced at the group’s Annual Meeting and Pot Luck Dinner on Sunday, January 7, 2018, at 4:00 p.m. in the Eagle’s Next Ballroom. The Association is also planning a Post-Holiday Food Charity Drive for the Aqua Fria Food Bank in conjunction with the Annual Meeting/Pot Luck. Further details will be announced in the January 2018 issue of the PebbleCreek Post.
With the holiday season in full swing, Association officials are also busy tallying final registrations for the Winter 2018 Season that begins Tuesday, January 9, 2018 and ends Friday, March 16, 2018. The deadline to register for the Winter Season was November 28.
The Bocce Association Executive Committee, which consists of the Board of Directors and the Team Captains, will meet on Friday, January 5, 2018, at 9:00 a.m. in the Tuscany Falls Ballroom.
