It’s a New Year and we all have great resolutions to ponder.
No. 1. Exercise more. First step – walk over to the Creative Arts Center or park far from the front door if you feel the need to drive. Enter the building and stroll through the halls to enjoy all the showcase windows filled with award-winning items completed by your neighbors.
No. 2. Learn something new. There are lots of craft classes scheduled for 2018 and for all levels of skill. Sign up for something new or enhance your talents in something you already enjoy.
The wood carvers have scheduled a class to carve a Native American corn dancer Kachina. They are also planning to teach you to carve a historic-themed chess set; a multi-week commitment.
Classes to learn to turn a gourd into art are already scheduled through April. Learn to create a sea grass wrapped gourd, a spirit doll gourd or a faux raku vase with canteen gourd.
Ceramic classes have also been scheduled. When I visited the ceramics room recently several artisans were learning to create ceramic beads that will later be painted and become wearable art. What a wonderful sense of accomplishment they will experience.
No. 3. Be more social. Come on over and join a club. Friendship is the key ingredient in all our clubs. Everyone will be eager to welcome you and lend a helping hand. In this issue of the PebbleCreek Post you’ll find a listing of every club in the community and a contact person for further information. There are fiber arts clubs, beading, card-making, wood craft, ceramics, quilters and hookers among others.
Now get moving. Come on down, and when you do be sure to stop in at the Expressions Gallery. On display at all times are works created by PebbleCreek residents, club member or not. I hope you’re nosy; you’ll need to poke into every nook and cranny of the Gallery to fully explore each display. Currently we have beautiful winter shawls with matching hats, quilted table runners, glass trays, books and CDs, jewelry, ceramic ware, baby clothes and blankets and much more.
No more pondering; walk on down to the Expressions Gallery and start your year off with a bang.
