Double Aces Create Unforgettable Day at Eagle’s Nest

During the annual Friendship Cup match play tournament recently played between PebbleCreek and Copper Canyon, two PebbleCreek golfers recorded holes-in-one on the exact same hole on the exact same day. The tournament includes 24 golfers from PebbleCreek and 24 from Copper Canyon going head-to-head in two days of spirited competition.

On April 30, the first ace came from Kathy Smith on Hole #17 at Eagle’s Nest. Playing a 100-yard shot with her 8-iron and an OnCore AVANT ball, Kathy watched her shot disappear directly into the cup alongside witness Cathy Weaver.

The excitement surrounding the shot became even more memorable in true match play fashion. Rather than conceding the hole, the Copper Canyon opponents decided to attempt a lengthy birdie putt of their own and amazingly made it. Even so, Kathy’s hole-in-one secured the victory on that hole. The ace was Kathy’s fourth career hole-in-one. To help celebrate the special moment, Kathy was gifted a bottle of Josh Pinot Grigio, making the ace even sweeter.

As players made their way through the round, no one realized another incredible moment was still waiting to happen.

Later that same day, fellow PebbleCreek golfer Nancy Moore also aced Hole #17 at Eagle’s Nest. Nancy used her 8-iron on the 100-yard shot, recording her fifth hole-in-one, which was witnessed by playing partner Peggy Steffan. Nancy’s memorable day was also toasted in style with a celebratory bottle of LaMarca Prosecco.

What makes the story even more remarkable is that Kathy and Nancy were not playing in the same foursome and had no idea the other had recorded an ace until they returned to the clubhouse after play.

Two holes-in-one during the same tournament on the same day and on the same hole? Unbelievable!

For many golfers, a hole-in-one is already a once-in-a-lifetime memory. To have two players from the same team accomplish it on the very same hole during tournament play feels like golf magic.

To add to the celebration, PebbleCreek also captured its first Friendship Cup victory against Copper Canyon, making this year’s tournament one that players will not soon forget.
