The PebbleCreek Democratic Club social committee provides a variety of events for members to choose from every year.
After a long, cooler than normal winter, 12 members of the PebbleCreek Democratic Club took a three-day trip to Cottonwood from April 16 through April 18. Ross and Judy Hart hosted the trip. Attendees stayed at the Tavern Hotel in Cottonwood, Ariz., and enjoyed dinner at Nic’s Italian Steak and Crab House.
On April 17, they boarded the old-fashioned Verde Canyon Railroad train and took a four-hour trip from Clarkdale to Perkinsville and back. They began their four-hour journey with Champagne toast, cheese, and crackers. They had the comfort of an enclosed train car and an open platform car. A historical guide in the open platform car pointed out the native cliff dwellings and shared the history of various cacti, the bubbling Verde River, and wildlife.
In addition to the Verde Canyon Railroad train event, 25 members attended the Doo Wop Project Concert at the Vista Center for the Arts, on April 29. Jackie and Art Smith hosted the members prior to the concert at Portofino’s Italian Restaurant in Surprise, Ariz. The food was delicious.
The Doo Wop Project Concert did not disappoint. The group is keeping the glorious sounds of the ’50s and ’60s alive with their beautiful harmonization. I am sure each member of the audience had their own memories while the group sang, “I Only Have Eyes for You,” “Tears of a Clown,” “Walk Like a Man,” “Ooo Baby Baby,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” and more songs, which take you back to your younger days. Both events were great ways to start the summer and bid our snowbird members safe travels. We look forward to making more memories later this year. Have a great summer, get out and have fun. To quote Oliver Wendell Holmes, “Old age is always 15 years older than I am.”
