On Sept. 21, 400 Democrats along with some Republicans and Independents gathered in Sun City Grand for a rally to introduce most of the candidates for office in November, both Congressional and State. Another 500 people participated on Zoom.

The atmosphere was electric and festive with flags for waving and beads and badges for wearing. Attendees had the opportunity to have their photo taken with a lifesize Vice President Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, and there were many takers. Both candidates and causes had tables arranged around the venue with signs and information. No one left empty handed.

There were 21 candidates in attendance. They represented all levels of office from Water Conservation Board through State Legislature Candidates to U.S. Senate. Each candidate was given a few minutes to speak from the stage and all were respectful of the timer who wielded a large STOP sign!

Candidates emphasized the need for Democratic representation all the way down the ballot. It was, in fact, recommended to vote “bottom up” to avoid voter fatigue when completing this election’s lengthy ballot. Voters need to educate themselves as to the best way to vote on all candidates and issues.

Ruben Gallego, candidate for the U.S. Senate, running against Kari Lake, was the top speaker. He spoke about the need to support our democracy and vote for those who support our democracy and have its best interests at heart.

Other candidates who spoke included Quacy Smith for U.S. Congressional District 9, Eric Stafford for State Senate LD29, Tanairi Ochoa-Martinez and Tom Tzitura running for the State House LD29, and all three Corporation Commission candidates including Ylenia Aguilar, Jonathan Hill, and Joshua Polacheck. Candidates running for Maricopa County offices were also there including: Tyler Kamp for Sheriff, David Sandoval for County Supervisor District 4, Assessor Candidate Gregory Freeman, Tamika Wooten running for County Attorney, Tim Stringham running for County Recorder, and County Superintendent of Schools candidate Dr. Laura Metcalfe. Candidates for the Central AZ Water Conservation District were also in attendance, including Terry Goddard and Heather Macre.

A surprise final speaker was Adrian Fontes, Arizona Secretary of State, who gave an entertaining account of why we should vote early. For one, it frees up funds for candidates to keep contacting undecided voters, and second, it stops all those annoying texts and emails!

In 2026 for the midterm elections, the PebbleCreek Democratic Club will be hosting the rally here in PebbleCreek. We look forward to planning another great gathering to give voters the information they need to make the right choices.
