The October PC Dem Club meeting was unique, bringing together a full dozen candidates who are running for county and state-wide offices to speak with our members. The speakers updated us on campaign developments, shared their goals, and just talked with us and each other. A huge majority of our membership is on the PEVL (Permanent Early Registration List), so they were anxiously awaiting the ballots that had been mailed to them that day. The candidates also thanked our members for their dedicated support to their candidacies since the beginning of the campaign cycle.
Adrian Fontes, candidate for re-election as Maricopa County Recorder, and Paul Penzone, candidate for re-election as Maricopa County Sheriff, had special messages for us all as well. Adrian encouraged everyone to vote as early as possible, whether in person or by mail. Early voting counts because the number of votes cast for each presidential candidate is announced on Election Day at 8 p.m., after voting closes, and so the more votes that have been counted, the better. Paul said that he and his folks will be monitoring every voting center, not in uniform, but they will be there nonetheless. Voting in Arizona is safe, he stressed, and he and his department will ensure that it continues to be that way.
In addition to Adrian and Paul, we were joined by Mariana Sandoval, candidate for Arizona House, LD13; Corporation Commission candidates Bill Mundell, Shea Stanfield and Anna Tovar; Dr. Linda Thor, candidate for re-election to the MCCCD Board; Julie Gunnigle, candidate for county attorney; Jeanne Casteen, candidate for county school superintendent; Suzanne Story, candidate for Board of Supervisors District 4; Dan Toporek, candidate for county treasurer; and Aaron Connor, candidate for county assessor.
The club thanks all the candidates for taking out valuable campaign time to be with us.
