Alan Collinsworth was the December 2023 Woodcarvers Club Woodcarver of the Month. Alan is one of the few club members who had carved prior to joining the club in 2022. In the 1980s Alan became interested in carving and carved numerous items, most with a Christmas theme. Then life got busy and carving was put on the back shelf. However, moving to PebbleCreek from Yakima, Wash., provided Alan the opportunity to get back into woodcarving. Alan has carved several pieces since joining the club, most with an animal theme. Alan’s orca, carved out of yellow cedar, won overall third place “Best in Novice” in the Desert Woodcarving Show last February in Mesa.
In addition to woodcarving, Alan enjoys pickleball and travel. The colorful cow in the photograph was inspired during a trip to France. Alan will be assisting David Linth with an upcoming class where a Northwest Native Halibut Hook will be carved. These hooks are quite intricate and it is astonishing that they were used to catch fish.
Please join me in congratulating Alan on a well-deserved carver of the month recognition.
