On Saturday, May 9 and Sunday, May 10 the newly formed Couples Golf group known as Tee For Two, held their first annual Ryder Cup event for the PebbleCreek Cup. Two teams of 15 couples each were randomly selected by Pros Ronnie Decker and Dave Vader into the Eagle’s Nest and Tuscany Falls teams. The competition on Saturday, May 9 was modified net best ball of the couple for each hole and all 18 holes counted; if a hole was tied each player won five points. The competition for Sunday, May 10 was individual modified net best ball, men versus men and women versus women with all 18 holes counted, unlike traditional match play. At the end of each day the scores were added up and the winner was determined by each team’s total score for the two days. On Saturday the Tuscany Falls team was led by Jerry and Karen Myers with 13 points and the Eagle’s Nest team was led by Laura and Allen Greathouse with 12.5 points. Tuscany Falls led the team scores on Saturday by 142 to 128. On Sunday the Tuscany Falls women were led by Ellen Stergulz with 14 points and the Eagle’s Nest women were led by Harriet Mulcahey with 17 points. The Tuscany Falls men were led by John Stergulz with 13.5 points and Eagle’s Nest men were led by Bob Ostroga with 11.5 points. Tuscany Falls again led the team scores on Sunday by 275 to 265 thereby winning the competition by 417 to 393.
Previous events included a Shamble in January and a unique eight person alternate shot playing four balls in March. Our Couples Championship was held in June.
Our group was formed by Margie and Michael Scherer and Ruth and Steve Shaffer to provide more social interaction within our community. Although each event is a competition, play is from the red tees for women and white tees for men to minimize stress and allow us to have more fun.
