Continuing Education Courses, co-sponsored by Arizona State University’s Center for Political Thought and Leadership and the PebbleCreek Republican Club, are being offered to club members only until November 15 and then will be open to non-members after that date if space is available. Cost is $100 per person for each five week series.
War of the Worlds: The Battle over Politics in Modern America will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 12, 19 and 26 and February 2 and 9 in the Palm Room, Eagle’s Nest Clubhouse.
This is an introduction to the debates over major contemporary American political issues including Era of Big Government, The War on Terrorism at Home, Gun Control, Free Speech and The War on Drugs. Instructor for this series is Nicholas Damask who received a PhD in political science from the University of Cincinnati, an MA in international affairs from The American University and a BA in political science also from the University of Cincinnati. He currently teaches undergraduate courses in world politics, American government, the U.S. and Arizona Constitutions and political ideologies.
The second session, American Exceptionalism, will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Mondays, February 15, 22 and 29 and March 7 and 14 in the Chianti Room, Tuscany Falls Clubhouse.
The classes will evaluate the concept of American Exceptionalism, considering aspects of the American political system that makes it unique among nations, including American ideas embodied in it’s founding, the Declaration of Independence and other founding documents and numerous other issues including what constitutes the American Dream. The instructor Tracy Munsil is an associate professor of political science at Arizona Christian University and earned her PHD from Arizona State University.
