The next meeting of the Alzheimer’s Caregivers Support Group is February 16.
Sadly, identity theft and fraud have become highly prevalent these days and older Americans are frequently viewed as ideal targets. This is particularly true of our loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia who are especially vulnerable due to their mental and physical challenges and loss of judgment.
The unscrupulous continue to victimize the elderly at record rate, especially those in the early states of Alzheimer’s or other dementias, who are especially vulnerable to identity theft because they are more trusting.
Mary Delano with the Arizona Attorney General’s office will be sharing with the group information about the most recent scams and what “red flags” to watch out for. She will also talk about how scammers operate. As to Identity Theft, she will talk about what you can do to prevent yourself from becoming a victim and what to do if your identity is stolen.
Attendees will get a copy of the Consumer Scams publication.
About the Speaker
Betty Delano retired from Maricopa County Superior Court after working for two Superior Court Judges for 30 plus years serving in various positions. After a brief three-month retirement, she went to work on a part-time basis for the Arizona Attorney General in his Outreach and Education Division serving as Senior Outreach Coordinator. Our goal is to reach and inform as many seniors as possible and to impart important information on health care planning, scams/identity theft and Task Force on Senior Abuse and Exploitation. As a former banker and government worker I have enjoyed serving and meeting the public for over 50 years.
Respite Care
We may be able to provide free respite care for those with Alzheimer’s/Dementia during the caregiver meeting. This will allow the caregiver the opportunity and peace of mind to attend the discussion group. Please call me with your RSVP no later than Tuesday, February 12.
Monthly Breakfast
A more casual opportunity to meet and share with other caregivers is the first Saturday of each month. We will meet at Eagle’s Nest for breakfast and just talk. Getting to know other caregivers can be very supportive and helpful as the journey of this disease can be challenging. RSVP is required by January 30 for the February 2 breakfast.
For information or to RSVP for respite care or the breakfast, please call Teri Sellers at 602-793-0299 or email [email protected].
