Committee for the High Holidays presents Debbie Wohl Isard

Tuesday, February 2, 2016, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the Tuscany Clubhouse Capri Room, PC High Holidays Club continues with our new program affectionately called Chai High.

Our fourth presentation in the series is most exciting—Debbie Wohl Isard, our speaker, is a member of the Board of Directors and the editor of La Granada, SCJS’s on-line news connection. She is a student of historical fiction, Jewish pioneers of the Southwest and the history of Christopher Columbus. Debbie originates from Philadelphia with Ashkenazi traditions that now seeks out Sephardic connections.

Learn about the descendants of Jews who escaped during the era of the Spanish Inquisition. These Marranos thought they were leaving persecution behind—unfortunately, the Inquisition followed them to the New World forcing them to remain hidden. Descendants of these people today are known as Crypto-Jews. Five hundred years later, many of them have no idea that they are of Jewish Ancestry. This talk will deal with discoveries made right here in the desert Southwest.

Come and join our club for this next lecture (at no charge). You will learn about our Jewish history. There will be many surprising revelations as well as insights. The floor will be open for questions after the lecture. Please email Brenda Hyman at [email protected] for signup. Each email will be time-stamped and once capacity is reached (40 guests) you will be wait-listed.

Mark your calendars for these additional dates in the coming months:

Tuesday, February 2, 2016, March 1. April 4—Capri Room (Capri Room/Tuscany Clubhouse at 7:00 p.m.

Shalom!
