Committee for the High Holidays announces upcoming lectures and events

Brenda Hyman

Our High Holiday Services are over for this year. We had a record turnout and our Rabbi David Mayer was outstanding! He touched our hearts as well as our minds with his wonderful services and thoughtful sermons. We thank him profusely. Our club wishes everyone a happy New Year that is healthy and good. May you be written into the Book of Life for the year 5777!

On another note—Chai High (our Jewish adult education program) is in full swing. On October 4 we had a full house in the Capri Room listening to a wondrous and mystical lecture about the Crypto Jews. Debbie Wohl Isard (editor of the LaGranada on-line news connection for the Marrano Jews) entranced us with her words and knowledge. So many stayed afterward to ask questions and talk with our speaker. Kudos to Debbie and our club!

Unfortunately, our November lecturer has canceled out. We may have another event in November. Please check with our PC egroup for any updates.

We do have more wonderful events planned:

December 6 – Messianic Jews and their beliefs

January 3 – A quick and easy lesson on Yiddish and Yiddish jokes

January 13 – Shabbat dinner at Tuscany Falls Clubhouse

February 7 – Judge Michael Simonson – (our local Jewish Judge)

March 7 – Movie and popcorn

April 22 – Holocaust Memorial dinner and observance

As you can see, we are off to a great start. Signups must be done by email each month to: [email protected]. You will receive a response from me. Room limit is 40 people. Most lectures are on the first Tuesday of each month in the Capri Room (Tuscany Falls) at 7:00 p.m. There is no charge for the lectures. We always have a wait list. If you sign up and are unable to attend, please cancel so that our wait-listers can be added.

Have a wonderful New Year. Shalom!
