Color Theory Classes

Color theory class participants

Cynthia Schwartz and Maureen Strachan

For several weeks throughout this past season, two sessions of color theory classes were led by Jan Ochterbeck. Jan has been a member of the PebbleCreek Quilters since 2021, when she moved into the community.

Participants learned a comprehensive approach to understanding color, how colors work together, and color harmonies. Six hands-on lessons were taught using a textbook and color swatches.

Jan Ochterbeck has been interested in fabric and sewing all her life. From age 8, her ambition was to become a fashion designer. With a BFA in fashion design from Stephens College, Jan worked professionally in apparel, textiles, and footwear product development for over 35 years, specializing in color. In 2015, her book Cut and Shuffle Quilts was published by AQS. She designs patterns, blogs at TheColorfulFabri-holic.blogspot.com, and teaches.
