Jan is one of Arizona’s Duncan Ambassadors and we are proud to have her teach at our club. She has been a Duncan Ambassador since 2013 representing iLovetoCreate (Duncan Ceramics Incorporated) and teaches all the Duncan University classes. She enables individuals to become Duncan Certified teachers by certifying them in the Duncan product line. Jan has been involved in ceramics for most of her life by going with her mom to the Arts and Crafts Center at the base and pouring ceramics, cleaning them and then decorating them. After moving to Arizona in 1984 she expanded her knowledge and started taking Duncan Certification classes becoming a Certified Duncan Teacher in 1994 and then later applied and was accepted as a Duncan Ambassador. She has taken over 100 Duncan Certification Classes; she is a member of the International Association for Duncan Certified Ceramic Teachers (IADCCT); her pieces have received many awards including the Rosemary Bodenheimer Award for originality and creativity in design and two Ming Awards from the Exhibitors Association Show. Jan teaches, or has taught, at numerous ceramic shops in the area, at Marjons Ceramics, at various adult community centers, at Luke Air Force Base and at the IADCCT International Convention. She loves teaching brushwork with EZ Strokes and Concepts, but also enjoys the blending of glazes and non-red techniques. She thoroughly enjoys working with her students and sharing her ceramic knowledge. Jan presently works full time as an Administrative Assistant at an Air Force Reserve Recruiting Office and has over 35 years as a government employee. She lives in Avondale with her very supportive husband of over 31 years, Larry, and their two dogs Gertrude and Jethro.
Jan teaches two Saturdays a month. Her classes this month are Saturday, November 12 and 26 and for next month Saturday, December 10 and 31 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. These dates and times are great for those of you who work full time or have busy schedules during the week.
