When Carole Garrett and her husband moved here from New Jersey almost 11 years ago, she was looking for a new hobby and a way of getting to know people. Even though she had no previous artistic background, she discovered that she really enjoyed ceramics, while at the same time making new friends.
Carole claims she is not an artist, but she loves the results and the feelings of accomplishment. She urges others who are looking for a creative activity to give ceramics a try. Carole is working on a pickup truck with interchangeable seasonal pieces, such as a flowerpot for summer and an angel for Christmas. She enjoys experimenting with different techniques, one being the use of paint mixed with shaving cream. She also uses gauze to add texture and antiquing to enhance the look of the circa 1900s shoes. Carole usually attends two classes a week. She depends a lot on the help of the teachers to fix her mistakes—just ask Kelli Frederickson.
Carole and her husband have three children and five grandchildren who they try to see as often as possible. FaceTime and airplanes help a lot to keep them in touch (all live on the east coast). It is so nice having a sister and her family in the area; she says, “They tease us that we came to visit and never left.”
Carole enjoys her Mah Jongg group, traveling, and participating in many clubs within PebbleCreek.
