Ann Economou and her husband, Greg, moved to PebbleCreek about a year ago but have lived in the Phoenix area since 2005. Her in-laws, Barb and Emil, also live in PebbleCreek and have since 2005. She retired 20-plus years ago as a dental assistant and spent the last 10 years being a nanny for a newborn. Now that he’s 10, she still thinks of the little boy as her “grandson” and remains in touch with him and his family.
Ann did ceramics with her grandma and her aunt as a teenager. How fortunate was she that her aunt had a kiln in her basement? She fondly remembers the award she won at 13 in a county fair. She featured her airbrushing skills to paint a lion cub. She still has the cub in her bedroom. Ann has always been involved in crafty things like scrapbooking and quilling, along with many others. She always selected art classes as electives throughout high school.
Ceramics was a natural fit for Ann. She immediately jumped in and helped wherever she could. She is on the board of the Ceramics Club of PebbleCreek (CCPC) as treasurer. We all appreciate Ann’s enthusiasm and help. She’s also learned to fire ceramics for us in the kiln.
Ann is now in a plate-making phase. Ann loves to paint ceramic plates. She has painted many plates with different designs and a whole set of dishes with birds on a branch. She uses these all the time at home. Her favorite plate has a snowman painted on it. Ann loves plates because she sees it as a blank canvas on which she can paint anything. She gets her ideas from images she likes online and from other people. She has many projects in progress. Ann usually spends four days a week in the ceramics room, and she has enjoyed all the new friends she has made there. Ann says she couldn’t do the wonderful projects she does without the help of our fabulous teachers at the CCPC. She is grateful to our talented teachers, Linda Galowitch and Kelli Fredrickson.
