Celebrating the Best: PebbleCreek Ladies Golf Association

Mary Neeley

The PebbleCreek Ladies Golf Association held its annual Club Championship tournament on March 15, 21 and 22. The club champion is the lowest gross scoring player over three days of tournament play. The tournament started on March 15 with double tee times on the Palms/Lakes Course. The second day of play was a shotgun on March 21 on the Falls/Palms Course. The third day of play was on March 22 with double tee times on the Eagle’s Nest Course. A total of 72 women participated in the tournament and they were divided into six flights. First and second place low gross and low net were paid out in each flight.

Congratulations to our new club champion Mary Harris. Mary’s gross score for the three days of tournament play was 237. The runner-up was Kathy Hubert-Wyss with a gross score of 239. It was a very exciting and close competition. As club champion, Mary received a trophy, bouquet of roses, and $100 in winnings. Her name will also be engraved on the Club Championship Trophy displayed at Eagle’s Nest Pro Shop. Kathy also received a trophy, a floral bouquet and winnings of $75 as runner-up.

The theme of this year’s tournament was Celebrating the Best. In addition to celebrating the champions in the tournament and each flight, the club also celebrated with presenting achievement awards for the year. Kathy Hubert-Wyss received the Most Birdies award. Roberta Diles received the Most Improved Player reducing her handicap from a 44 to 32.1 over the past year. Char Held received the Best Attendance award for participating in Tuesday play days.

Winners of the Winter Eclectic Tournament were also announced by Judy Hauser. The tournament ran concurrently with Tuesday regular play. Gross scores were recorded by each hole on all four course combinations after each Tuesday play. At the tournament’s end, the lowest gross score recorded on each hole, on each course, was tabulated producing an 18 hole score. First and second places were paid out in each flight for the four course combinations: Eagle’s Nest, Falls/Palms, Lakes/Falls and Palms/Lakes.

Carolyn Suttles presented the Medallion Qualifier awards to Kathy Huber-Wyss, low gross winner and Sue Abercombie, low net winner.

The PCLGA members celebrated the efforts of the outgoing board and celebrated the enthusiasm of the incoming board. Emma Mosley (PCLGA Vice-President) installed the newly elected board. They are Barb Patrow, president; Kathy Hubert-Wyss, vice president; Ellen Enright, secretary and Barb Chilton, treasurer. Emma gave each of the newly elected officers gag gifts to help them perform their new duties.

Tournament participants enjoyed a taco bar luncheon following the last day of play. The table centerpieces and tee box decorations were handmade wooden trophies engraved with PCLGA and 2016 Club Champion. They were painted silver and had glitter highlights. Topping the trophy was a glittered golf ball on a tee. Linens were black with clear crystals, votive candles and black netting on the tables. Thanks to our tournament co-chairs Chris Duprey and Tess Braden for doing a great job with this tournament.
