The highlight of the November 1 Central Arizona Golf District’s (CAGD) final tournament of the season at Los Caballeros Golf Club in Wickenburg was the annual meeting, where the Nell Ellenberger Award was given to our own Carolyn Suttles! This award was established in 1991 to periodically recognize outstanding service to the CAGD and has not been given since 2013. Sue Harrison, PebbleCreek Ladies Golf Association (PCLGA) member and past president of the CAGD, recommended Carolyn for this prestigious award and was also honored to make the presentation.
Carolyn has been an active member of the CAGD for 20 years and, beginning in 1999, she was the PCLGA’s CAGD representative for many years and continues as the alternate, even today. During this time, she won the 2000, 2001 and 2002 Presitive Cup before the event was discontinued. The Presitive Cup was awarded annually at an appreciation tournament in which the CAGD representative and their club’s president competed. In 2004 and 2005, she served as the CAGD vice president and took the helm as president in 2006 and 2007. Sue reported that Carolyn encouraged her to run for vice president and then president and always urges others to run for office and participate in tournaments.
Carolyn recommended that the CAGD sponsor the Desert Mashie Golf Club as one of their charities, by supporting its junior golf and scholarship program. For the last three years, Carolyn has served as president of Desert Mashie. She is an active member of the Arizona Women’s Golf Association (AWGA) and has been the PebbleCreek representative for over 15 years. She recommended and led the AWGA Ambassador program for five years and has been honored as their “Volunteer of the Year.”
The PCLGA congratulates Carolyn on this extremely well-deserved award in recognition of her dedication to the CAGD and love for golf!
