Caring for the caregiver

Rayma Scalzo

We are so pleased and lucky to have Regina Thibideau, M. Ed., speak to our Alzheimer Caregiver’s Discussion Group on Saturday, May 16. She is the Caregiver Support Specialist and Caregiver Coach for Benevilla, the Adult Daycare Program. For the past nine years she has been the facilitator of several Dementia and Parkinson’s Support Groups. She also writes a monthly Dementia and Parkinson’s Newsletter. Regina has a weekly article in the Daily News Sun and covers some very helpful tips for caregivers.

Our discussion group provides information, resources and comfort for those residents who are caring for loved ones who have Alzheimer’s disease. It is open to all caregivers who are caring for a loved one in the home, at a local care facility or out of state. The meetings are held on the third Saturday of each month from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

We have another group, The Saturday Group, which provides respite care for those having Alzheimer’s disease. It meets at a nearby location. This group allows the caregiver the opportunity and peace of mind to attend the discussion group. It is run by two PebbleCreek volunteers who have experience with Alzheimer’s disease. They want to make this time away as comfortable and stress free as possible. If your loved one is unable to participate in such a group, we may be able to arrange for someone to come to your house during the two hour meeting. Please RSVP by May 13.
