Captain Kathy’s Pickleball for Beginners

Spike Razem

Teaching pickleball to PebbleCreekers needs to be educational and fun. “Captain” Kathy Aalto, along with her various instructors and student partners, performs this excellent role for the PebbleCreek (PC) Pickleball Club on a weekly basis.

As most active adults agree, pickleball is the fastest-growing sport in North America and proves to be important toward one’s good health and social well-being. Learning pickleball correctly and safely in an enjoyable environment is accomplished successfully under Kathy’s direction. For the past 1 1/2 years Kathy Aalto has captained “Intro to Pickleball” to over 250 students in PebbleCreek. She succeeds Doug Brajcich and Bill Arsenault, and has been teaching PC residents since the Beginners Class was temporarily eliminated during COVID. She does an incredible organizational job to recruit volunteer instructors and student partners to help in her 3-hour beginner sessions. Serving, scoring, positioning, techniques, rules, sportsmanship, etiquette, and safety are all covered in her classes. Plus, with her props (e.g., rubber chicken, etc.), stories, jokes, and photo-taking, she makes it fun for everyone.

So, on behalf of many Creekers and pickleballers, a big thank you goes out to Kathy Aalto for her exemplary efforts and dedication!
