On Monday, November 14, 2016, our book club, led by Jo Werner, met at the home of Priscilla Naworski to discuss our book of the month. Shedding Light on Murder by Patricia Driscoll was the book recommended by Priscilla and written by a friend and neighbor of hers in Santa Rosa, California. Patricia was born in Westport, Connecticut and spent summers on Cape Cod.

Before the group discussed the book, our hostess served homemade New England clam chowder with oyster crackers. This certainly put us in a Cape Cod frame of mind!

Usually the monthly leader reviews the book giving a short synopsis and members are asked their reactions to the story, writing style, etc. This get together was certainly different!

The author herself was there to discuss Shedding Light on Murder—not in person, but on speaker phone. All were able to hear how she chose her topic, her characters and how she came to write a cozy mystery based on real characters. We were all able to ask questions.

Much of the narrative takes place in a lamp shop, (Patricia’s mother worked in a similar lamp shop on Cape Cod for 27 years). Lamps were rewired, restored and new shades chosen, many hand-painted for antique lamps.

Shedding Light on Murder is the author’s first book and is available from Amazon in Kindle and paperback. Ms. Driscoll has written a second book, titled Murder in a Different Light, also available from Amazon. Both are part of the Grace Tolliver Cape Cod Mystery series.

We were pleased to have the author read short excerpts from the new book. It was great having Patricia Driscoll with us. Too bad for her that she couldn’t taste the clam chowder!
