This photo by John Mirro is a great example of using a simple backdrop to transform a simple picture of a flower into something much more impressive.

Each month the Camera Club selects a picture as Photo of the Month and for July, chose club secretary John Mirro’s impressive picture of a neighbor’s Argentine Giant. This picture provides an excellent example of how John utilizes simple props, in this case, a tripod, black backdrop, and a little assistance from a neighbor, to create a dramatic close-up of a cactus flower. John enjoys using simple backdrops and occasionally, a portable reflector, to make impressive flower close-ups, and obviously has refined this approach to create dramatic results.
