“Busy Bee”—An impressive example of close-up and flower photography by club member Bob Stout; Nikon D850, 105-mm close-up lens, F5, 1/1200 sec.

The April photo of the month is a great example of flower and close-up photography by club member Bob Stout. Bob took the image with his Nikon D850 and a 105-mm close-up lens which allowed him to keep a safe distance while capturing the bee at work in his backyard. The shot was taken at a high shutter speed to freeze the subject and a fairly wide f/stop to keep the flower and bee in sharp focus but at the same time provide soft focus on the background; the reflections on the bee’s back and eyes are an example of good catchlight photography.
