“Morning Snack” by John Mirro … an impressive stop-action picture of an osprey with its morning catch along the California coast; photo was taken with a Nikon D500, 330mm equivalent lens, ISO 200, F10, 1/1250 sec.

The photo of the month for November is a great shot of an osprey in action by club secretary John Mirro while getting his ocean fix on vacation along the California coast near Newport Beach last fall. One of John and wife Linda’s favorite things to do is to walk along the beach with cameras, shooting whatever comes by. John’s persistence was rewarded when this osprey dove into the surf and came up with the Zebra Perch. The osprey rose into the sky and then hovered for a brief moment, looking down with those big yellow eyes. That’s when John got the shot. Technically, the osprey is in sharp focus and the wings and perch form a large “V,” which draws the viewer’s eye into the center of the picture.
