Breast Cancer Discussion Group

Judy Ayers

The Breast Cancer Discussion Group was pleased to have Kitty Shildt, registered dietitian, speak at our meeting on April 28. She shared many up-to-date nutritional issues that impact our breast cancer journey. Her husband, Dr. Rich Shildt, oncologist, was also with us to answer any questions or concerns.

Our group provides a great opportunity for those recently diagnosed or currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer to ask questions and learn from others who are also going through breast cancer. The purpose of our group is to provide support to residents through the sharing of common experiences and knowledge and to let you know you are not alone. We also encourage those of you who are longtime survivors to attend our meetings, as sharing your experience is very helpful to those just starting their breast cancer journey.

One of the challenges our group faces is reaching residents before treatment. We have a wonderful pillow provided by the PebbleCreek Quilters that provides comfort while recovering from surgery. We also have access to helpful resources to answer questions about breast cancer. It is so important that you get the right information, as information on the internet can sometimes be misleading.

We try to keep our meetings upbeat, and we do laugh a lot, as laughter is healing. At the conclusion of each meeting, we go to lunch at Toscana’s and get to know each other better. We hope you will join us!

If you want to chat, receive a pillow, or want information about our meetings, please call Judy Ayers, our president and facilitator, at 623-536-1496 or email her at [email protected].
