On May 11 Brad Johnston made a hole-in-one on hole number 17 of the Tuscany Falls East course. This was Brad’s ninth career hole-in-one and since it happened during a regular PCMGA tourney, he is now the first member to qualify for the 2023 PCMGA annual hole-in-one prize fund.
The 17th hole was playing 129 yards from the white tees with a front-pin position. Brad hit a high 9-iron that landed just left of the flagstick. Bob Parise, one of Brad’s teammates, yelled, “It looks like the one!” Brad’s ball rolled down a steep slope and right into the hole. His other teammates, Ken Nelson and Ed Boehm joined in the whooping and hollering. So did the foursome playing behind them. His ace helped his team win first place in their flight by two strokes!
Brad has been playing golf for over 40 years and qualified for the US Amateur (held at Spyglass Hill in 1999) by winning the Palo Alto Public Links tourney, a 4-round event. Brad’s first two holes-in-one came at Sunol Golf course in California in 1992 and 1993. He had another at Stevenson Ranch in California in 1996. His fourth one was on hole number 12 at Eagle’s Nest. His fifth and sixth came in 2018, both on hole number 4 at Eagle’s Nest. His seventh was at Eagle’s Nest hole number 12 in 2020. His eighth in 2021, again on hole number 4 at Eagle’s Nest (so a total of three aces on EN #4!).
Brad grew up in Northern California and attended San Jose State. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving 4 years finishing with a rank of E5. He spent 27 months in Vietnam stationed aboard a Fleet Tug. He spent his work career as a calibration engineer in the plastics industry. He and his wife Candy have lived in PebbleCreek since 2003.
Congrats on this terrific shot, and don’t bet against him on Eagle’s Nest #4!!
