Bowling Pin Shoot delivers fun to spare

Twenty-four PebbleCreek Gun Club members turned out for the annual Bowling Pin Contest held at the Joe Foss Shooting Complex in Buckeye on Nov. 1. “The day started out chilly,” reported Dan Borchers, PebbleCreek Gun Club Vice President, “but, between all the coffee and donuts and sunshine, we warmed up quickly.” Following the event, the winners were celebrated at lunch in the clubhouse.

“If you’ve ever tried bowling pin shooting, you know accuracy is critical,” commented Jerry Younker, Gun Club President. “The kill-zone of the four-pound pin is about the size of a 12-ounce beverage can. At seven yards, it is not easy. The pins for rimfire had to be knocked off a 4″ beam. The pins for the centerfire were on a 2’x8′ platform and had to be completely shot off the platform. Plus, there’s the distraction of all the other shooters with loud and rapidly firing handguns and you’re worried about getting a good timing. It’s quite a challenge, but lots of fun.”

The winners are:

Rimfire 1st Place: Mitch Counce 7.51 seconds; 2nd Place: Sue Harrison 8.83; 3rd Place: Dave Paulsen 9.57.

Centerfire 1st Place: Dan Borchers 8.0 seconds; 2nd Place: Bob Lukes 9.8; 3rd Place: Wayne Thomas 10.4.
