There’s no denying the word is out. Joining the PebbleCreek Bocce Association is synonymous with having a good time! With membership growing to over 700 players, there’s plenty of fun and friendship going on Wednesday and Friday mornings and Tuesday and Thursday nights as 66 teams currently compete in the Spring Season’s Day and Night Leagues.
But many PebbleCreekers may not be aware of the far-reaching charitable arm of what is fast becoming one of the community’s fastest growing organizations.
On Saturday, March 4 the Bocce Association will be sponsoring its first annual Ladies Charity Tournament to benefit the New Life Center in Goodyear.
Chaired by Priscilla Naworski, the tournament is open to all female members of the Bocce Association. Pre-registration for a fee of $10 per person is required. Registration forms will be distributed through the Bocce Association’s membership email data base and also will be available in the equipment shed at the Bocce Complex at Eagle’s Nest. Information concerning how and where to return the forms will be on the registration form. Deadline for pre-registering is Wednesday, March 1.
The day’s events will begin at 8:30 a.m. with sign-in and a continental breakfast. Teams will be assembled using a blind draw and every participant is guaranteed to play two games.
All proceeds from the tournament will be donated to the New Life Center which offers shelter, safety and services to families seeking independent, violence-free lives. High-quality programs demonstrate respect for the individual and a serene environment in which families can heal and plan for the future. The passion and commitment of New Life Center is best demonstrated by its mission: Saving Lives, Building Futures—Empowering Women and Children Escaping Domestic Violence.
Further information is available by contacting the tournament Chairperson Priscilla Naworski at 935-0741.
On Sunday, January 8, as part of the group’s Annual Meeting and Pot Luck gathering, a food drive was conducted to benefit the Agua Fria Food Bank. The result was the donation of over 400 pounds of food that was delivered to the food bank’s headquarters in Avondale. Organizers of this charitable endeavor were Nancy Adams, Ted and Debbie Blaine and Pieter and Jackie Vandenberg.
Agua Fria is part of the Association of Arizona Food Banks (AAFB), a private, nonprofit organization serving five regional food bank members and a network of nearly 1,200 food pantries and agencies.
