After longer than expected court refurbishment, the courts finally reopened for the remainder of the fall season on Oct. 20. The courts are a little different this time with no dotted lines and a layer of fine sand, but so far all the playing reviews have been positive. The bocce courts at Sunrise Park were also renovated; all bocce courts are open for all residents to play with the exception of league mornings and nights. Everyone—please remember to not walk on the courts to retrieve balls—go along the sidelines and then step in to retrieve and return to sidelines. And soon our lighting system will be updated similar to the lights for the pickleball courts.
The fall season ended on Nov. 11, and the winners are:
Tuesday night—1st: Moo is Who; 2nd: Night Rollers; and a 3-way tie for third.
Wednesday morning—1st: Relax and Roll; 2nd and 3rd: tie between Court Jesters and Smoothies.
Thursday evening—1st: Some Like it Hot; 2nd: tied between Court Jesters and Boccelisms.
Friday morning—1st: tied between Rolling Thunder and Bocce Blasters; 3rd: Desert Heat.
The bocce captains’ winter meeting was held Nov. 7. Tom Bose, president, presented samples of ball caps being considered for all Bocce Club members. In addition, several modifications of existing rules were voted on. It was decided that the winners for the upcoming winter season donate their winnings to their favorite charity. The club also voted on a Christmas Canned Food Drive to be held from Dec. 5 through the 17. A box will be set up in the sports house between the bocce and tennis courts. All PebbleCreek residents are encouraged to clear out their pantries and drop-off unneeded items for donation.
Winter league started Nov. 15 and goes through March 17, 2023. We have 64 teams with 688 players signed up. While this number is up from fall teams, we are still not at pre-Covid participation. If you’re interested in starting a team for the spring league, start now in recruiting your players.
And lastly, the Annual Picnic will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at Sunrise Park. Food will be provided by the Fire-up Freedom Grill Fire Truck, which has been well-received here in PebbleCreek at other picnics. Mark the date on your calendar now even though updates will be continued through the season.
