Bocce Club Introduces Skill Training and Social Play for All

Caela Casarino, Bocce Club Publicity Director

Don’t miss the first ever Bocce Skills and Social Play Night on Friday, Sept. 23! The Bocce Club is offering bocce lessons and skill training for the first hour, followed by two hours of social play. This event is open to all residents of PebbleCreek, not just Bocce Club members, in our drive to promote the sport to everyone. Bocce is a great sport for seniors as it is relatively easy on the body, allows for assistive devices on the courts, and you get both exercise and fun. Bocce also can be played at various skill levels—from easy-going to highly competitive—so if you’re a beginner and want to learn/practice skills and rules or have been playing for many years, this night is for all of you. Our goal is to grow the sport in PebbleCreek, be inclusive of all playing levels, and create fun and interest in our league play.

From 6 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 23, we will offer our first set of skill training on all eight courts. Players will practice under the guidance of the Bocce Club officers and coaches, with drills and constructive feedback. From 7 to 9 p.m. all courts are open for social play—players will be assigned to courts as they arrive to ensure everyone gets a chance to play and use their newly learned skills. We hope to get a good mixture of experienced and new players playing together, newer residents playing with older residents, and an atmosphere of friendly competition.

Balls and all game equipment will be provided by the Bocce Club and will take place at the bocce courts on the Eagle’s Nest side by the tennis courts. All you have to bring are refreshments (and remember, this is a social event, wink, wink), comfortable clothes, and a great attitude.

The Bocce Club plans for this Friday night event to continue through the fall season (Sept. 20 through Nov. 11), with new skills being learned every week, followed by social play. The more participation we have, the more likely we are to continue through the subsequent seasons. Please grab your friends and neighbors and come down for a fun time.
