With the addition of the Night Leagues, the 2015-2016 was a banner year for bocce enthusiasts as participation in the popular sport grew to over 700 players and a total of 64 teams in the day and night leagues.
Now it’s about to start all over again preparing for the start of the 2016-2017 fall, winter and spring seasons. The two day leagues will continue to be held on Wednesday and Friday mornings and the two night leagues on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
Treasurer Mollie McErlean, who handles the registration and scheduling of all four leagues, is urging everyone interested in playing on one of the fall season leagues to please do so as soon as possible and not wait until the formal in person registration next month.
“The sooner the better,” Mollie advises, explaining that the significant increase in the number of teams that play in the day and night leagues has heightened the need to get teams formed and scheduling completed in a timely manner in order to be ready in time for the start of the fall season on September 27. She further explained that there is only enough time to schedule one tier of play for the teams playing in the night leagues, due to HOA regulations that require the Bocce Complex lights to be turned off by 10:00 p.m. Players will be accommodated on a first come, first served basis. If there is a need, the Association will add a third night of play on Wednesday.
Registration forms can be turned into Mollie at any time over the summer. She can be reached at [email protected] or 935-2822.
Regular registration for the fall season will be held Tuesday, September 6 and Wednesday, September 7 at the Eagle’s Nest Kiosk, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
The fall season captain’s meeting will be held on Friday, September 23 at 9:00 a.m. in the Tuscany Falls Ballroom. League play starts Tuesday, September 27 and ends Friday, December 9.
