Bocce Association gears up for Winter League play

Bocce Association President Cheryl Kasselmann and Ray DuBois, a member of Team Club 21, show off one of four new equipment carts that will roll out at the start of Winter League play on January 7. The carts are designed to transport all the equipment needed for play on two courts, including the new scoreboards, which were handmade by Dave Gage in memory of his late father-in-law Chuck Judice, a dedicated Bocce Association member. His widow Marie continues to play Bocce.

It’s a new year, so out with the old and in with the new as the PebbleCreek Bocce Association prepares to honor top Fall League teams on January 4 and kick off Winter League play on January 7.

First, second and third place teams from both the Wednesday and Friday Fall Leagues, as well as the overall Grand Champions, will be recognized at the annual Membership Meeting and Potluck Dinner, which will be held on Sunday, January 4 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Eagle’s Nest Ballroom.

Association President Cheryl Kasselmann invites all participants in both the Fall and Winter Leagues to join in paying tribute to the top players and buying raffle tickets for some great door prizes.

“We are primarily a social/sport club and always have a great time at these events. Our raffles are also an excellent opportunity to raise funds for the association. I encourage all our members to come out, have a good time, buy lots of raffle tickets and win some great prizes,” Cheryl said.

On Wednesday, January 7, the Bocce Association kicks off winter play with 48 teams lined up to compete in Wednesday and Friday Leagues at the state of the art new facility at Eagle’s Nest. Team members are reminded that the Captains voted to change the Winter League start time for the first tier from 10:30 a.m. to the new time of 9:30 a.m. The second tier will start at the new time of 11:30 a.m. instead of 12:30 p.m.

League officials also report that plans are being discussed to start a new Night Spring League during the months of March, April and May now that the facility has lighting. A final decision will be made after the Association has determined if there is enough interest among Bocce players and residents, especially those who want to play but work during the day.
