Billiards Club Prevails over CantaMia Again

Dan Harris, Travel Team Coordinator

On Dec. 12, 2025, the PebbleCreek Billiards Club (PCBC) and CantaMia Billiards Club (CM) faced off in an exciting series of 8-ball matches, split between the two communities’ venues. Four players from each club traveled to the opponent’s home tables, fostering a day of intense competition and friendly camaraderie. The morning session was hosted at PebbleCreek, followed by the afternoon action at CantaMia.

Coming off a loss the previous month, CM was determined to even the score. However, PCBC once again emerged victorious, winning 3 of the 5 matches and taking the overall games tally 52–45.

Morning at PebbleCreek (PCBC wins 27-25)

First Match: Round-Robin (32 games)

Each of PCBC’s four players faced each of CM’s four players twice. CM jumped out to an early lead by winning the first three games, but PCBC mounted a strong comeback to win 19–13. PCBC’s Mark Mecklenburg dominated the field by winning 7 of his 8 games—the best record among all players.

Second Match: Ranked Heads-Up (20 games)

Players were paired by their first-match win totals for five rounds. The contest stayed close throughout, and CantaMia prevailed 12–8. Top performers: PCBC’s Rene Lefebvre won 4 of 5, while CM’s Dennis Kent and Rob Somerville matched that mark to secure the win. Kent added flair by sinking the 8-ball on one of his break shots.

Afternoon at CantaMia (PCBC wins 25-20)

First Match: Round-Robin (16 games)

PCBC took control early, winning 10–6. Lynn Warren and Bill Frustaglia led the visitors with 3 wins each out of 4. But CM’s Paul Hermann was the session’s star, going a perfect 4–0.

Second Match: Another Round-Robin (16 games)

In a tightly contested battle, PCBC edged out a 9–7 victory. The top performers each won 3 of 4: PCBC’s Lynn Warren and Dan Harris, alongside CM’s Shane Korman.

Third Match: Ranked Heads-Up (12 games + tiebreaker)

Time allowed for only three rounds. The match was dramatic from start to finish, ending tied 6–6 including CM’s Shane Korman spectacularly sinking five balls on the break in one of his games.  The day’s top players—PCBC’s Lynn Warren and CM’s Paul Hermann—met in a tiebreaker game. After some intense play on both sides, Hermann sank the 8-ball to give CantaMia the match 7-6.

Despite the split results, players from both clubs shared plenty of skill, strategy, laughter, and holiday wishes. The rivalry continues next month when the clubs meet again for another rematch.
