Blair Dreyfus
Hard to believe it’s March already. How many times did we hear that on our favorite talk shows and news stations—but they’re right. It is hard to believe. Of course, the older I get, the quicker the months and years seem to pass. It seems like only yesterday I was looking in the mirror wondering if I would ever have to shave. And now, I’m wondering if I should shave it all off and see just who it is under that beard. NOPE—not gonna happen—I don’t think I’d like what I see. As it is, I barely recognize the old guy in the mirror right now. Oh well, enough of that—on to my duties as Billiard Club President.
One of the best parts of my job is searching our Facebook page for names of new members to the page and then welcoming them to it. Along with that welcome is always an offer to join our club. Which gives me a chance to brag about our members. I get to tell those prospective members that they’d be joining a group of like–minded individuals whose love for the game comes through daily. Whether it be representing the club in matches with outside communities or in our internal tournaments. I especially enjoy the Wednesday Mixed Scotch Doubles matches. And every now and then I feel rewarded when I get a text from our treasurer with that person’s name attached to it indicating that they decided to join our club.
Also, pool has a bit of a reputation as being a man’s game played in dark dingy smokey pool halls or bars. But I think that’s a bad rap. I pushed hard for a women’s group, hoping to get a half dozen or so women to join. To my delight, it has grown to nearly 20 members. They are passionate about the game, eager to learn, and it puts a smile on my face every time I go through our roster and see all those women’s names.
I’ve got nine more months on this second term and three items on my original “to do” list to accomplish along with two ideas from our members that I feel would be beneficial to the group. So, I better hunker down and git ’er done! Thanks for putting up with me. And thanks for your help so far. I’ll need a little more help before I’m done and I know I’ll get it.
