Billiards Club President’s Message

Blair Dreyfus

Well, summer has begunI know, as I’m writing this article it officially hasn’t arrived but … with the onset of triple digitsIT’S BAAAACK! And, by the time you read this article it most definitely will be that time of year. That means that more of us will be stuck indoors. If you’re like me, always, as the heat really gives me a hard time. So what else is there to do besides suck it up and enjoy our time indoors!

I don’t mind it at all. I like card games. Texas Hold ‘em is my favorite. And I am a member of a poker club that plays on Thursday afternoons. If the Friday group shrinks because the snowbirds are gone, I’ll see if they need another body. And I will be playing more pool. I’m sure as my wife is reformatting this to send in to the Post she’s thinking “He can’t play MORE, can he?” I have enjoyed my APA leagues, but I have played in this league for three sessions now and I am starting to notice that I am playing against the same players from the previous sessions. I joined the APA because I was tired of playing the same players and relished the change. And my game improved.

I decided to try another pool association, the BCA, in hopes of joining a league that affords me that chance to play more games against a wider range of players. Its rules vary a bit from APA, but I know I can adjust to them easily enough. The league I’ve chosen is made up of 5- or 6-person teams. Five players play each night. One match against each of the other team’s players. The league has 10 teams. That means in the first half of the season I will be playing against 45 different players before I get to play those 45 players in the second half of the season. I’m hoping that the same thing will happen in this league and my game improves even more due to the new competition. One of our newest Creekers is a member of that league and he assures me that I will enjoy the challenge. I’ll let you know!
