On April 3, the PebbleCreek Billiards Club (PCBC) and CantaMia (CM) Billiards Club delivered an action-packed day of competitive 8-ball, with matches split between the two communities. In the morning, four CM players traveled to PebbleCreek to challenge four PCBC hosts, while the afternoon saw four PCBC players make the trip to CantaMia.
Despite trying their best, PCBC was beaten by CM at both locations. By day’s end, CM won all four matches and the overall game count, which was 57-39.
Morning Session at PebbleCreek (CM Wins 29–19)
First Match: Round-Robin (32 games)
Each PCBC player faced each CM opponent twice in a round-robin format. CM jumped to a quick 11-5 lead in the first half. PCBC battled back and won the second half by a score of 9-7, but that was not enough to catch CM, who ended up winning the match 18-14. CM’s Dennis Kent led all players by winning seven of his eight games, while PCBC’s best players were Joe Armbruster and Eric Spano, both winning four games.
Second Match: Ranked Heads-Up (16 games)
Players were paired by their round-robin win totals for four rounds in the time remaining. CM continued their momentum and won by a score of 11 games to 5. Dennis Kent and Tom Juliano led the charge for CM, each winning all four games, and Dan Harris had the best showing for PCBC, winning three of his four games.
Afternoon Session at CantaMia (CM Wins 28–20)
First Match: Round-Robin (32 games)
The match stayed close throughout until CM won the last four games to clinch an 18-14 victory. CM’s Todd Stringer had the best record overall, winning six of eight games, while Rene Lefebvre won five of eight games for PCBC’s best.
Second Match: Ranked Heads-Up (16 games)
Just like the morning contest at PebbleCreek, CM kept the pressure on and clinched a 10-6 win. James Fogerty and Dean Miller went undefeated at 4-0 for CM, while PCBC’s Rene Lefebvre and Lynn Warren were tops for the visitors with three wins in four games.
It was a long but fun day of excellent shot-making, laughs, and sportsmanship. Players are already ready for a rematch next month!
