Bill Todd won the PebbleCreek Men’s Golf Association Match Play Championship by defeating Dean Bass in the title match. The nine hole title match was conducted on Thursday, January 15 on the Falls Course. Bill closed Dean out on the Par 3 eighth hole with two holes up and one hole to play (two and one).

Just prior to the title match, two semifinal matches were conducted. Bill defeated Ron Rogers (one up) in the match between the third and fourth flight winners. Dean defeated Roy Wolf (one up) in the match between the first and second flight winners.

In the consolation match to determine overall third place, Ron Rogers defeated Roy Wolf with two holes up and one to play.

This event put player against player in a hole by hole competition. Handicap was calculated by subtracting the full handicap of one player from the full handicap of the other and dividing by nine. For example in the title match, Dean’s handicap of 7 was subtracted from Bill’s handicap of 28. Bill received 10½ shots for the nine hole match.

The Road to the Final Four

It was quite an accomplishment to be a flight winner. Initially, they had to survive an 18 hole stroke-play qualifying event which was conducted on Thursday, January 8 at Tuscany Falls. The top 64 players in this qualifier were placed into four flights and based on their net score were then seeded for the match play portion of this tournament. To win their respective flights and get to the final four, each player had to win four nine hole matches. The first and second matches were conducted on Saturday, January 10 on the Lakes Course. The third and fourth matches were conducted on Wednesday, January 14 on the Falls Course.

Here’s how they made it to the final four:
