You might be surprised to learn that most of the folks carving those amazing things in the display case outside the Quail Room in the Creative Arts Center (CAC) had never carved prior to joining the Woodcarving Club. Many times we have heard “I can’t do that” in the carving room, but give it a try and you just might be able to “do that.”

A Beginning Woodcarving Class begins June 3, for three weeks. It will be held on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 1 to 4 p.m. The tools and materials for the class are provided by the Woodcarvers Club. The cost is $15 for materials. The first project is to carve a spoon, which one should be able to finish during the three weeks. The carver may try both a micromotor (similar to a Dremel) or sharp tools (knives and gouges). You do not have to join the Woodcarvers Club to take the class.

Come get out of the hot weather and give carving a try. The signup sheet for the class is on the bulletin board inside the Quail Room at the Creative Arts Center.
