John Harguindeguy, President, PC Ballroom Dance Club
Summer’s here and we’re all taking journeys as we go through another summer in Arizona, but it won’t be long until we start our fall Ballroom Dance series with three dances in September through November. On September 21 we’ll have our “End of Summer” dance in the EN Ballroom with music furnished by DJ Jason Wong. Great night to wear the last of summer clothes, including Hawaiian shirts, etc. We’ll follow this up on October 12 with our “Colors of Fall” dance in the EN Ballroom with music by Manuel Dorantes on keyboard with full instrumentals. More info on each of these dances will be forthcoming in future Post articles.
Our major Dinner/Dance for the year will be on November 10. The “Mistletoe Ball” is the first holiday dance of the season and once again this will be special. Music for this dance will be furnished by the seventeen-member AZ Jazz Kings, this group is well known through the valley for their ability to bring the big band sounds as they were played originally. Even if you don’t dance, this orchestra will entertain through-out the night.
Finally, I want to make note that two of our members offer independent dance instructions for those who wish to learn or improve on their ballroom dancing. Ed Sampson will once again offer free dance lessons starting in October through May on Tuesday afternoons from 3:30 to 4:30. This is a group class that is well attended and Ed teaches a variety of dances and steps. Our other instruction is Paul Westrich, (a retired professional ballroom dance instructor) who teaches individuals, couples or small groups. Paul can be contacted (number in the directory) and he is available through-out the year. I can attest to his quality as an instructor and also let you know that his nominal cost is unbelievable in the dance world.
Looking forward to starting the season and getting us up and on the dance floor.
