Showtime’s fall production, We’ll Sing in the Sunshine, will take place from Nov. 16-21 in the Renaissance Theater. This show will tell the story of the singing in Washington Square Park, Greenwich Village, New York, in the 1950s and 1960s. This location was a very popular site for up-and-coming entertainers to perform their music and was an important part of the development of many kinds of music that we listen to even today. Several well-known pop and folk singers were first heard there, as the people just spending time in the park enjoyed the music and participated in the fun. (Washington Square Park is a strategic part of the history of much of our modern popular music.)
Auditions for this show will be held on April 14 and 15 in the theater from 5-8 p.m. This show offers many opportunities for singing and playing folk instruments, as well as speaking roles and comedy. All music will be live. If you are interested in auditioning for this show and do not play an instrument, there will be a back-up band to accompany you.
Audition packets will be available to pick up in the Activities Office from Patti Wegehaupt, beginning on March 12. In the packet will be a CD for your use in the audition if you don’t play an instrument, as well as a form for you to complete if you are interested in auditioning. If you are accompanying yourself, you will not need the CD, but you will need the form. Auditions will be scheduled once we receive the forms back from you. Further instructions are on the form.
This show has generated a lot of interest and we look forward to having a great variety of music that will please everyone.
