Tony Warcholak
The March Artist of the Month is Tony Warcholak. Born and raised in Brooklyn, his successful career with the IRS took him overseas as well as to various parts of this country. Tony has always been interested in photography and art. He took a course in photography and learned the basics of a 35 mm camera. That course opened his eyes and he began to see things in a new way. In 1992 he started to express himself through his art both photographically as well as painting.
While on vacation in Virginia he began that expression by doing a wonderful detailed pencil drawing looking out the window from where they were staying. Tony describes his art mediums as acrylic and pencil with photography supporting both mediums. As a self-taught artist, Tony finds the pictures he is working on make him dig deeper within as he works on the painting. Art allows him to create a picture of life as he sees it. Not only can he see the benefits to himself but also to share it with others.
Fourteen years ago Tony was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease (PD). He has found that his art and photography have helped him with this disease. Parkinson’s allowed him to sit back and allow what happens to happen and to change life from what is, to what it could be. Tony says, “It opens up your senses and can make the best life you can imagine.” His love for art as well as having PD built a rewarding friendship with Bill Cupit. Bill was art teacher and mentor to many here at PebbleCreek and passed away a few years ago from Parkinson’s. Tony would like to encourage all that have PD to get involved in art and photography, as he feels it would benefit them very much.
Tony and his wife, Diane, moved to PebbleCreek twelve years ago. Be sure and check out Tony’s art during March in both clubhouses as well as in the Artist of the Month window display in the Creative Arts Center. Congratulations, Tony, you are an inspiration and challenge to us all.
