It is with great pleasure that the PebbleCreek Art Club announces Kathy Sork as the April Artist of the Month. Kathy comes to us from Vancouver, Washington, where she and her husband of 35 years still have a home.
Kathy grew up in a military family which resulted with her living in several different countries and sparking an excitement of new things within. Growing up, some form of art was always in her life. She says, “I was that kid that thought there were never enough colors in a Crayon box and never used the appropriate color when completing a paint-by-number horse.” The signs of a budding artist were definitely evident.
Though always taking art classes, including in college, she graduated with a Graphic Art degree but spent her career in Mortgage Banking. Doesn’t this sound like so many of our flourishing artists here at PebbleCreek?
As an outlet to a life changing tragedy, she again got serious about her painting. She continues to be inspired by this person to be the best she can be.
Kathy has discovered that she is an intuitive painter, going back to her days of painting outside the lines and using the colors she loves for an object that is known as being a totally different color. She describes her painting this way: “I paint for that warm fuzzy feeling I get when a painting is complete and I say to myself – through struggles and doubt and can it be – my painting is finished. And I call it mine and smile with pride because I can then move forward to my next Picasso with joy and anticipation for my next struggle to paint something really worthy. So many things to paint, so little time to finish them all.” Kathy isn’t the only one who smiles; we can’t help but smile when we hear her story and see her art.
Be sure and stop by the Creative Arts Building in April and enjoy Kathy’s display of bold colored paintings, like the delightful one pictured with this article.
