The PebbleCreek Art Club is proud to present Jane Myers with the October 2019 “Artist of the Month” award.
Jane, her husband, Dan, and their little malti-poo dog Teddy, moved from Long Island, NY to PebbleCreek in 2017 with nothing more than two suitcases, a carry-on bag, and three cowboy hats! Jane’s decision to move to PebbleCreek was made the instant she set foot in the Creative Arts Center. “I was overjoyed when I walked through the building—it was a dream come true for me,” she said. Of course, the wonderful friendships Jane and Dan have made in PebbleCreek and the warm feeling of “community” have made life joyous.
In New York, Jane and Dan raised their two daughters and spent time with friends and family, which was a lot of fun. But, Jane practiced law for many long hours, which was not so much fun. For decades, she put aside her passion for making art and music. Her guitar was buried in the corner of a closet. “On the rare occasions when I could find time to paint, it would be late at night after the kids went to bed and I had finished my legal work for the next day. Painting would completely captivate me. I would be ‘in the zone,’ working in my tiny basement studio and wouldn’t realize how much time had passed until I’d go upstairs, look at the clock and realize I only had two hours to get some sleep before I had to get up and go to work, but it was worth it!”
Since moving to PebbleCreek, Jane tossed out her pin-striped suits, briefcase, and pantyhose.
Now she embraces sunshine, wearing flip-flops, and the glorious colors of the Southwest. Her joy is reflected in her distinctive artwork. Layers of vibrant hues cover her canvases, and each painting bursts with images of people and nature. Her work is somewhat realistic, often times quite whimsical—and always alive with color!
Recently Jane has been exploring a medium called fiber clay, which she uses to create humorous, quirky sculptures that will make you smile!
Jane is also an avid guitarist and an active member of LifeLong Learning’s guitar group, as well as a member of several informal guitar groups. She was a participant in two musical acts in this year’s PebbleCreek’s Got Talent and will be performing in a musical program performed by the guitar group in February 2020. She also devotes her time as a volunteer for LifeLong Learning. Jane loves to cook, as she and Dan are wine and food enthusiasts. They enjoy traveling, and their pup, Teddy, joins them whenever he can.
Jane’s artwork has been exhibited several times in a gallery on Long Island, the West Valley Art Museum, and the Goodyear Library, and her work has sold! Come and enjoy her paintings and sculptures now on display in the Creative Arts Center showcase, as well as in the Tuscany Falls and Eagle’s Nest Clubhouses through October 2019.
