The PebbleCreek Art Club is pleased to honor Tom Gallob as October Artist of the Month. Tom moved to Phoenix in 1973 and has lived in and around northern Phoenix for most of the time since. He and his wife Judy lived in Cave Creek before moving to PebbleCreek last year. According to Tom, “I joined the PebbleCreek Art Club as soon as I was aware there was a club at PebbleCreek.” He had previously belonged to the Terra Vita Art Club in Scottsdale for many years and there took a number of classes including one in oils from Sue Hunter, an artist well known to PebbleCreekers. Also while in Cave Creek, Tom and Judy participated for 10 years in Hidden in the Hills—a highly successful home studio tour project.

Tom’s art reflects his training and experience in Industrial Design, but it also portrays a wide variety of other subjects including still life, landscapes, seascapes, portraits and flowers. In selecting a particular subject, Tom is attracted to its color and shape and the challenge he perceives in expressing his creativity. Though he prefers oils, he also uses pencil, charcoal and acrylics. As for other mediums Tom says, “I find watercolors, pastels and colored pencil to be very difficult and admire anyone who uses them!” A painting created by Tom can take him anywhere from three days to two weeks and he may be working on two or three projects at a time, allowing some pieces to dry while he works on others.

Tom paints every day, mostly in his home studio, but he is also a faithful participant in Open Studio on Thursday and Friday afternoons at the Creative Arts Center where, in addition to painting, he engages in lively critiques with other members. The photo above portrays Tom and his acrylic painting Oriental Lily. In addition, he plans to display his acrylic paintings entitled: Beached Boat and Seascape at Sunset in Tuscany and Eagle’s Nest clubhouses. We invite you to see and enjoy Tom’s paintings there and in the Art Club display window at the Creative Arts Center.
