The PebbleCreek Art Club is pleased to announce that the Artist of the Month for June is Nancy Stifter. Nancy was born in Las Vegas into an Air Force family and lived in many states and the Panama Canal Zone while growing up. Even after getting married, the moving around lifestyle continued as her husband Lou chose mostly contracting positions. Their longest time in one place was in Benicia, California, their favorite home of all.
While in California, Nancy received her second degree, a Bachelor’s in Business. The first was in Secondary Education with a Math and English credential. With her business degree Nancy worked as a corporate accountant until she and Lou moved to PebbleCreek in 2009.
Previously Nancy enjoyed crafts, sewing and quilting while a stay-at-home mother with their daughter. She had no formal art training until her husband Lou (a previous AOTM honoree) talked her into taking that first class in the Creative Arts Building. Subsequently she has taken classes from resident artists Marsha Lyons, Desiree Mansell, Judy Hale, Sharon Adamy, Linda Strauss-Lewis and Sherri VanSchaick. She has also studied with outside instructors and says, “I just can’t seem to stop exploring the opportunities to learn here in PebbleCreek!” Nancy also admits to being an online tutorial junkie, observing videos and reading blogs.
Nancy thanks resident photography instructor Bill Raymond for developing her interest in photography which helps her to prepare subject matter for painting and to record finished pieces that both she and Lou have created.
A portrait of Johnny Cash in pencil and charcoal won a second place ribbon in the recent Meet the Artist Show and was selected for display at the Goodyear Library 2015 Timeless Portraits show. This piece, along with a pastel entitled Springfield, Utah, will be on display in the window at the Creative Arts Building.
Nancy is pictured with Sherri’s Sunflowers, a pastel done on watercolor paper.
