Charlene Romanos
The excitement and anticipation for the Art of Recycling exhibit at this year’s Art Walk 2016 left no one disappointed. The announcement of a special art challenge was presented to the PC Art Club’s membership back in May of this year by Charlene Romanos, chairman for the event.
The challenge asked artists to think outside their comfort zones and design fine art, using 75% recycled materials.
At first, to many of the artists, it was a daunting task but in the end 22 art club members using their amazing creative abilities and imagination, came up with an unbelievable exhibit of incredible art.
The exhibit was independently judged by two artists from the Sedona Art Center. Pam Frazer and Gayle Taylor were truly amazed at the art created as they carefully reviewed every piece, admitting it was a difficult task to come up with the winners.
PC Art Club proudly awarded First prize to Gayle Baldasare, for her Dragon Lady, a self-portrait, in which she used coffee filters, pine cones and avocado skins to create this amazing sculpture. Second prize went to Sherri VanSchaick, third prize Loretta Pruett and honorable mention winner Marianne Graff.
Other participating artists were Regina Bacon, Judy Bihary, Marian Carew, JoAnn Clements, Judy Carruthers, Diane Greeneich, Judy Hale, Marsha Lisle, Marsha Lyons, Gretchen Olberding, Charlene Romanos, Jym Shider, Shirley Smith, Kathy Sork, Mary Stack and Linda Strauss-Lewis.
