Art Club history (continued)

Sherri Heitz

On January 24, 1997, the PebbleCreek Art Club started a series of art classes in different mediums with local and out of state artists and we carry on that tradition to this day!

At one time the small group of 12 journeyed to the studio of Nancy Clauss in Scottsdale to view a demonstration of her work in pastels. Because of their size, small excursions could be made as a group to local museums and Art Shows around this area.

The PC Art Club today is 174 strong!

In the past several years and at the end of the year, one art club member is honored as the Artist of the Year because of his/her body of work including commitment and dedication to the club and its members. This award is kept secret until the announcement is made at the club Christmas Party.

Today, due to our size and with the many classes offered at the Creative Art Center, small excursions to local museums, etc., are difficult to arrange but we still have groups that get together and visit out of town art exhibitions, serve as judges in Children’s Art Exhibitions as well as give of their time to teach and share their art with children who do not have the benefit of being exposed to any type of art in their everyday lives. We are fortunate to have a large group of artists living in this community who are accepted into juried competitions in and out of Arizona.

What we call Open Studio today takes place on Thursday and Friday afternoons from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. was originally called Do Your Own Thing which is really what we do today. Most of us are new at art and use this time to practice our medium and visit. The guidance provided by our more experienced artists is priceless. The camaraderie and support provided makes for a fun time. All are welcome—beginning artist or more advanced in your particular medium.

In spite of our size, you can walk into the Creative Arts Center today and on to the Coyote Room and be greeted warmly as there will always be someone who will take the time to answer questions or guide you in the right direction.

The passion for this club is still as strong as when our founders started it and it is exhibited by all of the art displayed and the ongoing dedication and education of its members growing artistically and intellectually.

Thanks to all of you who have shared and are still giving so much of his/her time and talents to our beloved art club. To our founders, your passion is our passion!
